JOB DESCRIPTION:

 

The Position:

The Communications Analyst plays a critical role in developing and implementing the communications and advocacy strategy for UNFPA in Iraq and ensuring reporting on the delivery of UNFPA programmes.

The Communication Analyst will be based in the Erbil sub-office and will work under the supervision of the Communication Specialist.

Job Purpose:

Under the overall guidance of the Representative and the direct supervision of the Communication Specialist, he/she will work in close collaboration with the Programme and Operations Teams, Regional Office and will maintain relationship with other UN Agencies and the UN Strategic Communication Group.

She/he will also work closely with different partners to ensure internal and external flow of communication and information, particularly with media, and to strengthen partnership.

 

You would be responsible for:

  • Supporting the development and implementation of the CO communications and advocacy strategy;
  • Supporting the development of the social media strategy and monthly plan;
  • Maintaining a relationship with national and local media partners;
  • Collecting and drafting human interest stories related to the results achieved through UNFA-led projects;
  • Preparing press releases, articles, key messages, and other advocacy materials;
  • Overseeing the translation, adaptation, or rewriting of information received for the local context;
  • Managing the publication of materials for final approval; establish and maintain relationships with printers/ publishers;
  • Providing support to IPs and UNFPA staff on corporate communication guidelines and regulations;
  • Supporting implementing partners in ensuring UNFPA and donors' visibility.
  • Managing and updating the UNFPA website in three languages;
  •  Supporting the preparation of a monthly e-newsletter and other online materials, as necessary;
  • Providing support to advocacy efforts and campaigns that apply innovative approaches, organize publicity events, and prepare briefing materials and press releases.

 

Qualifications and Experience: 

 Education:  

  • Advanced degree in Journalism, Communications, Digital Marketing or other closely related field is required.

 

Knowledge and Experience: 

  • Up to two years of progressively professional experience in communications, digital marketing or related relevant field at the national level;
  • Excellent understanding of social media and online communication and media;
  • Experience required in editing and copywriting skills, including articles, reports, social media content, press releases preferred;
  • Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.);
  • Experience in video and photo editing and design software is an asset (Adobe package).
  • Practical experience in design, monitoring and evaluation of communications projects.

Languages: 

  • Fluency in English and Arabic; knowledge of Kurdish is desirable.
