UNFPA is currently concluding the second Country Programme Cycle that ends in 31 December 2019 and will start the third Country Programme Cycle for the period 2020 – 2024 in alignment with the new UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework UNSDCF (2020 – 2024), the Iraq Vision 2030, the National Development Plan 2018-2022 and the UN Reform Roadmap 2016.

The new programme has been developed in consultation with a wide spectrum of partners including government, civil society, development partners, United Nations Organizations, academia, etc. that will be implemented at both national and sub-national levels.  The direct beneficiaries of the programme are mainly women and young people. The program will address reproductive health issues, prevention of and response to Gender-Based Violence and integrating youth in reproductive health and gender equality programmes as well as working on Population Development Strategies.

In contributing to the above, the programme adopts a mode of engagement that employs the following strategies: (a) advocacy and policy; (b) capacity development (c) knowledge management; (d) partnerships and (e) service delivery.

The UNFPA Iraq third Country Programme Document (CPD) 2020-2024 will focus on the following Outputs:
