British Minister of State for the Middle East and North Africa, James Cleverly and British Ambassador to Iraq, Stephen Hickey, met on 30 November with a group of young people, women survivors of gender-based violence and women rights' activists at the Ministry of Youth & Sport, in the presence of Minister Adnan Darjal.

The young people presented a social theatre performance on reproductive rights and women's empowerment to demonstrate the current challenges in society and discuss possible solutions. Women activists talked about the importance of the women centres and the need to raise public awareness supported by the promulgation of laws that protect women from abuse and violence. The Minister heard from the group about family planning and the link with the Iraqi culture.

The meeting was organised with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Iraq.
