On Monday 10 December, Dr Oluremi Sogunro, UNFPA Representative to Iraq, met with his excellency Dr Ala'a Al Alwan, the Iraqi Minister of Health, with whom he discussed several health-related issues, with a particular focus on family planning, maternal health, and the clinical management of rape.

The discussions emphasised the need for a national family planning strategy for Iraq based on the best practices and lessons learnt and for a review of the reproductive health and family planning data in the country. Dr Sogunro also urged the Minister to expedite the validation of the clinical management of rape protocol at Central level.
