Baghdad, 5 February 2025 –UN Women and United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) are pleased to announce a new collaboration to strengthen the resilience of vulnerable women and girls—including internally displaced persons, returnees and host communities in Sinjar, Sinuni, and Al-Amal Centre in Ninawa Province. Building on ongoing efforts to foster social cohesion and enhance women's leadership, this initiative will equip participants with business and technical training in sustainable practices, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy. Additionally, women will receive essential resources to support their economic independence and strengthen their role in rebuilding their communities.

“Investing in women’s resilience is key to fostering inclusive development in Iraq,” said UN Women Representative for Iraq, Ajay Madiwale. “This initiative will provide women with the tools to drive their own recovery and contribute to a stronger, more cohesive society.”

“This partnership represents a vital step towards empowering women and girls. By equipping them with the skills and resources they need, we are not only supporting their individual growth but also enhancing the overall resilience of their communities,” Mr. Garik Hayrapetyan, UNFPA Representative a.i. stated.

This partnership underscores UN Women and UNFPA’s commitment to advancing women’s resilience and empowerment in Iraq, ensuring they have the skills and support needed to thrive.
