Job Description
The Position:
The Communications Analyst plays a critical role in developing and implementing the communications and advocacy strategy for UNFPA in Iraq and ensuring visibility and reporting on the delivery of UNFPA programmes.
The Communication Analyst will be based in the Erbil sub-office and will work under the supervision of the Communication Specialist.

Job Purpose:
Under the overall guidance of the Representative and the direct supervision of the Communication Specialist, he/she will work in close collaboration with the Programme and Operations Teams, Regional Office and will maintain relationships with other UN Agencies and the UN Strategic Communication Group.
She/he will also work closely with both external and internal partners to ensure visibility for the organisation and its mandated areas while supporting to ensure the internal and external flow of communication and information, particularly to local and regional media.
You would be responsible for the following:
- Supporting the development and implementation of the CO communications and advocacy strategy;
- Engaging with local media to raise visibility for UNFPA-mandated issues through building good relations with local journalists and media partners, providing access for journalists to subject matter experts, organising media field missions to ensure appropriate visibility for UNFPA’s mandated areas of work, and monitoring local, regional, and international media coverage for UNFPA and issues relevant to UNFPA’s mandate.
- Ensure monthly collection of success/human interest stories and communication materials to feed into situation reports, updates, newsletters, website and other communication channels through coordination with UNFPA sub-offices and implementing partners;
- Managing UNFPA’s website in 3 languages, social media platforms and other public information sites by ensuring high-quality content generation reflecting results, achievements, and success stories and are updated in a regular manner to ensure an increase in followers and viewership.
- Support the preparation and drafting of e-newsletters, press releases, articles, key messages, talking points and other advocacy materials and ensure their effective dissemination.
- Managing the production of communication and advocacy tools and products from start to finish, including booklets, brochures, and infographics, liaising with implementing partners, printers/publishers while ensuring adherence to UNFPA branding and visibility guidelines.
- Undertaking and coordinating the production of videos and photographs to showcase UNFPA’s work and the support of donors to be used for donor visibility, resource mobilisation and advocacy efforts.
- Support the organising of public events, promotion, and dissemination of corporate advocacy materials for launching flagship initiatives and publications, as well as public awareness campaigns.
Qualifications and Experience
Education:
An advanced degree in Journalism, Communications, Digital Marketing or other closely related field is required.
Knowledge and Experience:
- Up to two years of progressively professional experience in communications, journalism, digital marketing or related field at the national level;
- Strong writing skills, with experience in content writing for feature stories, reports, articles and social media.
- Experience as a journalist, either free-lance or for a media provider with experience handling digital media is an asset.
- Excellent understanding of social media and online communication and media;
- Experience in video and photo editing and design software is highly desirable (Adobe package).
- Experience in using computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.)
Languages:
Fluency in English and Arabic; knowledge of Kurdish is desirable.
