UNFPA conducted a series of training sessions as part of ten-week progoramme to enhance the capacity of 200 specialised and non-specialised mental health and psycho-social support service providers from across Iraq. The first set of training took place over five weeks from 7 July to 8 August 2019 and included 100 non-specialised humanitarian workers, such as social workers, from across Iraq. The training combined theory with practice and group activities. The topics focused on case management, first care to survivors, psychological first aid, trauma-informed care, among others.a

قبل 25 سنة، اجتمع قادة 179 دولة في القاهرة بالمؤتمر الدولي للسكان والتنمية وأقروا بحق الأفراد الإنساني في اتخاذ قراراتهم الإنجابية الخاصة بشكل حر ومسؤول. أقر برنامج عمل المؤتمر أن تمكين المرأة هو شرط لتحقيق التنمية. بالرغم من التقدم في المنطقة العربية، إلا أن السعي نحو تحقيق وعود المؤتمر الدولي للسكان والتنمية لايزال تحديًا

25 years ago, a global revolution started in Cairo when 179 world leaders met at the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) recognized that individuals have a basic human right to make free and responsible reproductive choices. The ICPD programme of action stressed that women's empowerment is a precondition to development. Despite progress in the Arab region, the quest to fulfil ICPD promises for everyone remains challenging. #ICPD25

Yasmin is one of the thousands of women who have suffered from conflict-related sexual violence perpetrated by ISIL from 2014 until their defeat in 2017. From the onset of the crisis, UNFPA established the Women & Girls’ Treatment and Support Centre to provide the necessary treatment as well as psychological and legal support to women and girls who managed to flee the terrorist group. The centre is currently supported by Canada and Sweden.This video gives us a glimpse of Yasmin’s suffering and introduces us to the services offered to survivors of sexual violence in Iraq.
